Sullivan Arts Grantee Award showcase

NARROWSBURG, NY — On Saturday, May 18 at 11 a.m. at the Tusten Theatre, the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA) will present the Sullivan Arts Grantee Award showcase, honoring the community groups and artists who have been selected to receive re-grant funding in 2019.

This year, DVAA re-granted $37,000 to local artists and organizations for arts and cultural programs in the county.

The showcase is free and open to the public. New York State Sen. Jen Metzger will open the grant award presentations with a few words. In addition, the event will feature performances by 2019 grantees including a duet by Delaware Valley Opera’s Mary Burkart and Ken Parks, a reading by Bizzy Coy, and a one-act play performed by Cole Phillips of Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop.

NARROWSBURG, NY — The Narrowsburg Farmers’ Market opens for the season on Saturday, May 18, and continues every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine, until October 26. The market hosts more than 15 farmers, food producers and artisans and takes place behind the Narrowsburg Union.

‘Women Who Horse’

DAMASCUS, PA — On Saturday, May 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., join Jennifer Canfield for a workshop about the human-horse connection. The workshop is part of a series entitled “Farm Days,” presented by Farm Arts Collective, located at 38 Hickory Lane, Damascus, PA.

The workshop will cover information about the agricultural aspects of horse keeping, behavior and the predator/prey dynamic, the importance of keeping in the moment, and how being with horses enhances our human-to-human relationships.

The program begins at the Farm Arts Collective greenhouse located at Willow Wisp Organic Farm. Sturdy footwear is strongly recommended.

‘Lunar Weekend’ to celebrate  50th anniversary of moon landing

BETHEL, NY — “Lunar Weekend” aims to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. In addition to “We Are Stardust,” the exhibit featured in the Crossroads Gallery, there will be a stargazing sleepover on Friday, May 17 and Lunar Festival on Saturday and Sunday, May 18 and 19.

The stargazing sleepover is for children aged six to 13 who are accompanied by an adult 21 or older. Tickets cost $30. For more information, visit www.bethelwoodscenter.org/events/detail/lunarsleepover.

The festival features two shows, “Grand Tour of the Universe” and “Exploring the Solar System,” in an inflatable planetarium. ‘Hats Off to the Ladies’

BLOOMINGBURG, NY — The Democratic Women of Sullivan County (DWSC) are hosting their fifth annual spring fling, “Hats Off to the Ladies.” This year’s celebration will be held at the Eagles Nest on Sunday, May 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

New York State Sen. Jen Metzger is among this year’s honorees, which also includes Town of Mamakating Judge and candidate for Sullivan County Judge, Cynthia Dolan, and Sullivan County Public Health Services Deputy Director Wendy Brown.

‘Transitory Nature’ artist talk and opening reception

LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — Catskill Art Society (CAS) will present “Transitory Nature,” a mixed-media show from Jeri Coppola and Shirley Irons at the CAS Arts Center on Saturday, May 18. The exhibition will be on view until Saturday, June 29.

An artist talk will take place on May 18 at 4 p.m. with a free opening reception from 5 to 6 p.m. Complimentary refreshments will be served.


Wines and wine labels 101

PORT JERVIS, NY — The Hub at the Port Jervis Library will present a sommelier, Alex Meloi, on Monday, May 20 at 7 p.m. in the community room of the Port Jervis Library.

The workshop is designed to enhance each participant’s knowledge, appreciation, and understanding of why certain types of wine taste and smell the way that they do.  For those over 21, the class concludes with a taste of a $12 bottle and a $20 bottle to compare.

Elements Lakewood Festival pre-party silent disco

HONESDALE, PA — On Saturday, May 18 from 9 to 11 p.m., The Cooperage and Wayne County Arts Alliance are presenting a silent disco pre-party for the Elements Lakewood Music & Arts Festival (ELMAF), which will take place on Memorial Day weekend in Wayne County. The silent disco event, hosted by ELMAF, will feature DJs from the festival lineup, performing artists in costume, an outdoor silent disco, art installations and more.
