MONTICELLO, NY – Sullivan County District 5 Legislator George Conklin III released the following statement on September 8:
“Much has been made of my decision not to wear a mask at legislature meetings. I’d like to clear up the rumors and gossip, some of which have been pretty vicious.
Put simply, I don’t believe masks are warranted. I also don’t feel the need to argue with everyone about why I feel that way. If someone wants to wear a mask, I won’t stand in their way.
That said, I greatly respect our county manager, Josh Potosek, and I do not wish to undermine his competent leadership, with which I am very satisfied. While I may disagree with the mask mandate, I will wear one while at Legislature meetings for the simple reason that our county manager has properly exercised his authority to enact that requirement, and I support him 100%.”
