Small Town Country 4-H’s fifth annual 5K Run/Walk a success

Posted

HORTONVILLE, NY — On Sunday, October 20, the Small Town Country 4-H club held its fifth annual Live Love Serve 5K run/walk on a scenic United States Track And Field (USTAF) route. It was described by the organizers as “a kind of crazy-eight course through the quaint hamlet of Hortonville.”

A total of 118 registered participants faced an early fall morning with the first hint of frost on the ground. Catskills Timing recorded the times as the participants passed through the finish line by the local firehouse.

The Small Town Country 4-H club was chartered in 2013, and today has 40 members, kids aged five to 18. It is supported by several volunteer parents, all dedicated to doing good deeds in their rural community.

The run/walk funds a scholarship for club members, and over the past four years has raised $12,000.

A highlight of this year’s run/walk was “Fill the Truck,” one of the club’s largest community service projects. According to club leader Jenny Phelps, it was set up this year to assist people in North Carolina suffering in the wake of a deadly hurricane.
