LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY — On February 4, SUNY Sullivan hosted the 14th annual BCANY Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at the local community college’s Paul Gerry Fieldhouse.
Billed as “Shoot for the cure!,” the Basketball Coaches Association of New York (BCANY) game was played in memory of Jack Semo, David “Wayne” Depew, Chelsea Lyons, Rob Potter (the former sports editor at the Sullivan County Democrat), Roscoe’s “Legends of Section IX” coach and athletic director Fred Ahart and Oswaldo Lombardi.
In addition, the games of February 4 and 11 were held in honor of cancer survivors Bob Russo, Amanda Zeno, Glorianne and Rick Ellison, Gerni Schombs and Joe Collura.
The second matchup on February 4 featured the boys’ varsity Bulldogs hoopsters of Sullivan West (6-8) pitted against the Eldred Yellowjackets (4-8).
Eldred jumped out to a 10-2 lead at the close of the first frame, but then ran out of gas in the remaining periods—7-0, 9-6, 13-7—as the Bulldogs posted a 36-23 win.

Sullivan West: Jacob Hubert (12 points, including a three-pointer), Evan Hubert (7, including a three-pointer), Andrew Hubert (5, including a three-pointer) and Jaymes Buddenhagen aced a three-pointer.
Eldred—Elijah Gonzalez (a pair of three-pointers), James Deyermong (6 points), Sean Furler (5) and Trai Kaufmann (4).
