WAYNE AND PIKE COUNTIES, PA — The Schools & Homes in Education (SHINE) afterschool program has returned to Wayne and Pike counties this school year.
The program can be found at Lakeside Elementary and Wallenpaupack South Elementary, and it has expanded to Dingman-Delaware Elementary, announced the Wayne Pike Workforce Alliance (WPWA).
The WPWA has been awarded a $2.29 million grant, provided by the PA Department of Education.
The funding will establish five SHINE centers that will provide essential afterschool services to students and families.
“The SHINE Afterschool Program has been a cornerstone of support for local students, offering a safe and structured environment where they can receive academic assistance, engage in enriching activities, and enjoy nutritious meals,” the WPWA stated.
SHINE supports academic achievement and fosters social-emotional development, the WPWA said.
The expansion into Dingman-Delaware will allow more students to benefit from the program’s offerings, which include tutoring, mentoring and hands-on learning experiences. It also provides peace of mind for working parents, the alliance added.
