Serving community through business

"I like what I do and I don't need to make a killing with my pricing," said Andrew Ford, from Key Light Media Productions.

"I have a passion for people," Z. Ivet Bandirma, MA said, as she introduced Blue Sky Business Consulting.

The sentiment speaks to passion around vocation.  And passion around vocation was on display at the Wayne Library Alliance's (WLA) Small Business Showcase held at the Park Avenue Complex on Saturday, October 21.

Small business people are like that.  They like what they do and they find ways to follow that passion.

It has to do with supporting the community; it has to do with humbly supporting their and our lives.

The message was echoed by Wayne County Commissioners Brian Smith and Wendell Kay as they explained the progress of Wayne Tomorrow, a living initiative that came out of the 2010 Comprehensive Plan.  That initiative, Smith explained, is an attempt to gain a variety of perspectives "outside of the usual suspects."  Through that initiative, there is a science-based Ag curriculum at Honesdale High and the Park Avenue Complex is developing into a business incubator with a commercial kitchen and high-speed internet.  Still, in its infancy, the initiative reminds us that we all have something to share with the community.

There is common good among us, between us and provided for us through small business.
