Sentences handed out in Pike County Court

Pike County District Attorney Raymond J. Tonkin announced the following criminal sentences were issued by Pike County Court of Common Pleas President Judge Gregory Chelak for the week of July 6, 2020:

Lauren Kristen Phillips, age 35, of Hawley, PA, was sentenced to 6 years to 18 years in a state correctional facility and fined $6,000.00 for the crimes of Drug Delivery Resulting in Death and Criminal Conspiracy to Deliver a Controlled Substance. Phillips was involved in the sale of Fentanyl at various locations in Pike County with the assistance of seven other individuals between August of 2018 and January of 2019. On October 14, 2018, Phillips sold Heroin containing Fentanyl to an individual in Lackawaxen Township which resulted in the individual’s death.

Dallas B. Parmenter, age 23, of East Stroudsburg, PA, was sentenced to 2 years of probation and fined $500.00 for the crime of Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Burglary. The state police responded to a burglary at a residence in Lehman Township on March 22, 2016. Entry was made from a bathroom window. Parmenter was identified from fingerprints left at the scene. During an interview, Parmenter confessed that he and two other individuals committed the crime.

Antonio C. Scopelliti, age 33, of Staten Island, NY, was sentenced to 9 months to 5 years in a state correctional facility, fined $1,500.00 and had his driver’s license suspended for 18 months for the crime of Driving Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance. The state police responded to I-84 in Blooming Grove Township on September 29, 2019, where Scopelliti was involved in a vehicle crash. Scopelliti was observed having problems with his balance and presenting constricted pupils and he also admitted to ingesting controlled substances prior to driving. Field Sobriety Tests showed impairment and a blood test confirmed the presence of THC, Carboxy-THC, Alprazolam, Clonazepam and Aminoclonzepam in his blood.

James Timothy Corbett, age 55, of Dingmans Ferry, PA, was sentenced to 8 months to 23 ½ months in the Pike County Jail and fined $300.00 for the crime of Resisting Arrest. Corbett was allowed to enter a residence in Blooming Grove Township on September 14, 2019, to collect a few personal items. Corbett refused to leave the residence after repeated requests. When troopers arrived, Corbett refused the troopers’ directive and the troopers attempted to effectuate an arrest. Corbett refused to cooperate and place his hands behind his back requiring the troopers to use substantial force to overcome Corbett.

Kathleen E. Johnston, age 25, of Dingmans Ferry, PA, was sentenced to 24 months to 5 years in a state correctional facility and fined $700.00 for the crimes of Possession With Intent to Deliver and Institutional Vandalism. Johnston was a passenger in a vehicle stopped by the state police on June 15, 2018, for a cracked windshield while traveling along Milford Road in Delaware Township. A consent to search the vehicle revealed Johnston in possession of Heroin. On October 17, 2019, while in custody in the Sheriff’s Department holding cell located at the Pike County Courthouse, Johnston carved “Kat” into the cell door.

Brett Fredrick Barnes, age 46, of Honesdale, PA, was sentenced to 11 ½ months to 23 ½ months in the Pike County Jail, followed by 5 years of probation and fined $1,100.00 for the crimes of Bad Checks, Deceptive Business Practices and Theft by Deception. Barnes wrote a check for $10,254.00 to a business located in Blooming Grove Township knowing that his bank would not honor it. Between October 5, 2018 and October 9, 2018, Barnes accepted a check in the amount of $1,900.00 as a deposit from two individuals for home improvements at a residence in Lackawaxen Township and failed to complete the work or return the money. On May 3, 2018, Barnes accepted $5,774.00 from an individual to do construction work at a residence in Delaware Township but failed to do the work or return the money.

Thomas William Sullivan, age 35, of Dingmans Ferry, PA, was sentenced to 79 months to 174 months in a state correctional facility and fined $1,000.00 for the crimes of Flight to Avoid Apprehension and Failure to Comply with Registration Requirements. Sullivan, who is a Tier 1 Sexual Offender originating out of a prior prosecution in Pennsylvania, failed to register his yearly verification with the Pennsylvania State Police between February 22, 2018, and March 22, 2018. Sullivan also failed to report his change of address. On November 26, 2018, Sullivan failed to appear for his scheduled sentencing hearing at the Pike County Courthouse.

Jovan Gerard Toussaint, age 19, of Scranton, PA, was sentenced to 78 months to 15 years in a state correctional facility and fined $2,525.00 for the crimes of Robbery, Theft, Firearms Carried Without a License and the Summary Offense of Unauthorized Transfer. Toussaint brandished a stolen firearm which he had no license for and demanded money and property from an individual, taking $60.00 cash at a residence in Delaware Township. On March 8, 2019, Toussaint operated a vehicle in Westfall Township a stolen license plate.

Wendy Sue Fuehrer, age 54, of Hawley, PA, was sentenced to 5 years to 15 years in a state correctional facility and fined $6,500.00 for the crimes of Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Drug Delivery Resulting in Death, Involuntary Manslaughter and Delivery of a Controlled Substance. Fuehrer engaged in the sale of controlled substances along with two other co-defendants in Wayne and Pike County which resulted in the death of an individual on September 15, 2018, who used the substance which contained Fentanyl. On November 7, 2018, Fuehrer permitted a co-defendant to sell a controlled substance containing Fentanyl to an individual residing in Paupack Township and failed to call for medical assistance resulting in the individual’s death. Fuehrer sold Heroin containing Fentanyl to a confidential informant in October of 2018 in Paupack Township.

Ronald Alexander Szabo, age 35, of Shohola, Pa, was sentenced to 24 months of probation and fined $500.00 for the crimes of Terroristic Threats and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. During a domestic dispute at a residence in Lackawaxen Township on September 23, 2019, Szabo threatened to kill an individual. When Szabo was taken into custody by the state police he was found in possession of pipes, a scale and containers for the storage of controlled substances.

Jose Ramos, age 38, of Bushkill, PA, was sentenced to 24 months of probation and fined $400.00 for the crimes of Simple Assault and Recklessly Endangering Another Person. On December 4, 2018, Ramos threatened other individuals and drove in a reckless manner with the intent of placing the occupants of another vehicle at risk of injury.

Joshua S. Rodriguez, age 29, of Greely, PA, was sentenced to 6 months to 23 months in the Pike County Jail and fined $1,500.00 for 3 counts of the crime of Delivery of a Controlled Substance. Rodriguez was observed by the state police on August 24, 2018, at a location along SR 434 in Blooming Grove Township conducting three separate sales of Cocaine.
