Running to help the Delaware Youth Center

Another beautiful week in Lake Huntington. We finally got around to going to the Cochecton Pump House this past week and enjoyed the live music, ambience, and food. Be sure to check it out on a fair-weather day.

Congratulations to everyone in the January SUNY Sullivan EMT class for successfully getting through their practical skills training. Note that two Cochecton Ambulance Corps members, Emily Umbaugh and Hunter Keesler, were among the students in the class.

Join the Cochecton Youth Commission on Tuesday, July 19 (rain date is July 20) at 11 a.m. at Costa’s Family Fun Park, near Hawley, PA, for a fun day. Activities include go karts, laser tag, mini golf, bumper boats, a driving range, virtual reality mini games and a fun children’s playland. As always, there’s no charge for all Cochecton youth up to age 21. There is no charge to enter Costa’s, so adults and out-of-town youth just need to pay for any activities in which they wish to participate. You can visit the company’s  website, costasfamilyfunpark.com, for rates. If you have any questions about this event, contact Heather at 845/796-6976.

The Cochecton Youth Commission  will go to the Animal Adventure Zoo in Harpursville, NY on Saturday, August 20, 2022. There is no charge for Cochecton youth. Adults and out-of-town youth can pay at the door of the zoo. For  questions, call Krissy at 845/807-8003. The address is 85 Martin Hill Rd. The programs are funded in full or in part by the county Youth Bureau.

It’s that time of year again—time to get yourself ready for the 24th annual Delaware Youth Center 5K/10K River Run and Walk. This year’s race is scheduled for Sunday, July 24. Not only does the race lead you along the gorgeous Delaware River, which lends the youth center its name, but it’s also our center’s biggest fundraiser. By signing up, you’re literally running to help us.

You can run a 5K, run a 10K, walk a 5K, or do it all virtually. Yes, that’s right. The Gary A Winglovitz Virtual Run allows runners to join us from anywhere. What does that mean? Choose your distance, choose your course, and be part of this great race even if you aren’t in Callicoon on July 24 or won’t be able to get to the DYC for the 8:30 a.m. start. Visit https://www.delawareyouthcenter.org/, and thank you for supporting the Delaware Youth Center.

If you have a local business that would like to be spotlighted in an upcoming column, get in touch. Email jenn@jennpowelldesigns.com  with any news, events and happenings.
