Rep. Delgado visits local retired military work horse on Veterans Day

Posted

CHATHAM, NY — On Veterans Day, U.S. Representative Antonio Delgado (NY-19) visited the Equine Advocates Farm.  Delgado toured the farm and met Tyler, a former military working horse with the U.S. Army Caisson Platoon. In this role, Tyler led caskets of service members who passed away or died in combat to their final resting places at Arlington National Cemetery.

“It was great to visit the Equine Advocates Farm and meet Tyler, a former military working horse,” said  Delgado. “During his time with the U.S. Army Caisson Platoon, Tyler played an important role in ensuring our fallen soldiers were laid to rest with the honor and dignity they and their families deserve. Thanks to Equine Advocates, Tyler has found a permanent retirement home in our district.”

“This most important week I have had an opportunity to participate in many activities to honor our veterans, their families and widows,” said director of Columbia County Veterans’ Services and retired Command Sergeant Major Gary Flaherty“Today we honor another Veteran–Tyler, who was retired from the Army from The Caisson Platoon, Arlington, VA. This has a very special meaning to me. More times than desired, I was tasked to accompany the Caisson [Platoon] into Arlington when burying an enlisted soldier or veteran. I would like to thank Susan for this special honor, as well as Congressman Delgado, Assemblywoman and Chair of The State Veterans Assembly Committee Barrett, and Judge Nichols and his wife. Thank you to all our veterans and a special thank you to Tyler.”
