Renate M. Hoersting

Renate M. Hoersting, a longtime resident of Eldred and formerly of Ridgewood, NY, passed away Friday, May 8, 2020 at home. She was 85 years old. Renate was the former owner of the Windjammer Bar in Ridgewood, NY. She was the daughter of the Late Otto and Maria Schaller Zeuleis. She was born July 8, 1934 in Hof, Germany. Renate graduated from nursing school in Germany. She was a member of St. Jacobi Lutheran Church, Shohola, PA. A family statement reads, “Renate was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. She had a kind spirit and a wonderful sense of humor. She was one of a kind and will never be forgotten by those who were lucky enough to have made memories with her.”

Renate was predeceased by her first husband, Heinz Ziegeler, her brother, Leo Zeuleis, and her sister, Miana Troeger. Her survivors include her second husband of 38 years, Willi A. Hoersting; her sons, Klaus Ziegeler and his wife, Anne, of Matamoras, PA, Peter Ziegeler and his wife, Theresa, of W. Olive, MI; her daughter, Susan Cozzolino, and her husband, Philip, of Long Island, NY; grandchildren Nicholas Ziegeler, Hannah Ziegeler and Matthew Ziegeler; brother Hansi Zeuleis of Germany; and several nieces and nephews. 

Because of the COVID-19 restrictions, a memorial celebration of Renate’s life will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the care of the Harrison Rasmussen Funeral Home in Barryville, NY (845/557-8010).
