Inaugural free community dinner

HONESDALE, PA — The Cooperage Project is hosting its first free community dinner on Sunday, March 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. The Community Dinner will be a casual occasion, open to anyone, and kid-friendly. 

The meal will be prepared and served by a team of volunteers. There will also be an array of board games out for entertainment. 

Donations are accepted, and all donations made at the community dinner will go directly to support programming at The Cooperage.

 Spay/neuter event for cats

LIBERTY, NY — On Sunday, March 8, the Catskill Animal Rescue is having a spay/neuter event at C.A.R.E, located at 263 Old Monticello Road. 

This event is for cats only. The procedure costs $30. Those interested must call and make an appointment and arrange for pre-payment. Check-in begins at 8 a.m.

‘Farmer to Farmer’ networking success 

HONESDALE, PA — A spirit of cooperation and a shared love of all things farming were evident at the Farmer to Farmer networking event held recently at the Cooperage.

Members of local agricultural groups including Wayne Tomorrow, SEEDS, Wayne County Grown PASA and the Wayne/Pike Farm Bureau made up the crowd of about 60.

Opening the evening were Jenna Mauder of the Cooperage and Zach Jones, Young Ag Professionals chair of the Wayne/Pike Farm Bureau. Both spoke of the need for those involved in all facets of agriculture to work together and help each other for the benefit of all who embrace the farm lifestyle.

The positive atmosphere in the room invited friendly conversation and a sharing of knowledge. New ideas were formed, business connections were made and the feeling that we’re all in this together prevailed.

Record set in 2019 for Wayne/Pike holiday toy drive

WAYNE AND PIKE COUNTIES, PA — The Holiday Toy Drive, brought to you by The ZIPPER JUNCTION Project™, set a record in 2019 by receiving over $100,000 in toys, gifts and monetary donations. These were collected to help more than 700 children whose families applied for assistance last holiday season. The organization wishes to thank everyone who helped in reaching the goals of providing gifts for children living in Wayne & Pike Counties.

For when Meals on Wheels can’t get through

MONTICELLO, NY — Some of our seniors rely on Meals on Wheels. But what happens when the driver can’t get through?

The Office for the Aging and Cornell Cooperative Extension are asking for donations of canned or boxed food that will keep senior hunger at bay.

They need food in small cans (especially with a pull tab), healthy cereals or snacks, cookies, oatmeal, peanut butter, raisins, bottled water and juice boxes. Other donations are welcome too. Donations can be brought to the Office for the Aging, the county government center, or CCE in Liberty.
