Bronx woman arrested for drugs in Monticello. Police say Delma Padilla, 47, had 83 grams of crack cocaine and 117 glassine envelopes of heroin when she was arrested on May 7.
A couple from Pike County in their 70s has recovered from COVID-19 after a stay in the isolation unit at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Loraine and Steve Klein probably contracted the virus on a cruise in January. Read more on page 8.
A developer proposes an apartment complex for Monticello with more than 300 units. The project, proposed by developer Greg Johnson, would be built on West Broadway and is being reviewed by the village planning board.

Doug Solomon, the former police chief of Monticello who also served as mayor of that village for two years, has been fired as the police chief of Newburgh. No reason was given for the termination.

Thousands apply to become contact tracers in New York. Applications have been accepted since May 1, and the state already has 7,000 applicants offering to work to slow the spread of COVID-19.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo is calling on all New York residents to get tested for the virus that causes COVID-19. He said, “The sites will be there. We now need New Yorkers to go get the test.”
On May 10, New York State Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay called for a return to established state government operations. Barclay said it is time to end Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s expanded emergency powers.
The Pennsylvania Alliance for Golf has published guidelines for golf courses that have reopened. The alliance recommends that caddies, ball washers and water coolers should all be eliminated.
Sullivan County COVID-19 statistics as of May 11: There are 1,098 confirmed cases, 322 currently active cases, 1,074 cases in quarantine, 1,750 cases off isolation and 26 deaths.
The state is launching regional re-opening control rooms. Sullivan County Manager Josh Potosek is on the Hudson Valley team as is Jonathan Drapkin, president of Pattern for Pro-gress.
A Port Jervis woman was sentenced on May 7 for a brawl in Weis Market in Honesdale in May 2019. Dana Croci was sentenced from 28 to 84 months in prison. Her adult son was sent to prison earlier for the same incident.
Members of the New York State Senate Republican Conference on May 11 called for an independent investigation of the state’s response to the tragedy unfolding in state regulated nursing homes, as reporting of the coronavirus death toll within these facilities climbed to 1,700.
