NEWBURGH, NY — The Icelandic airline PLAY has announced a new low-cost route between various destinations in Europe and New York’s Stewart International Airport. PLAY’s first flight to New York will be on June 9, and it will operate daily flights. According to PLAY, the airport’s small size and easy transportation to New York City make it an attractive destination for Manhattan-bound travelers, while travelers looking for “affordable accommodation and beautiful landscapes” can find them in the “upstate New York paradise” of the airport’s immediate surroundings.
“This is a significant development for New York Stewart International Airport and the region and the customers it serves, said Rick Cotton, executive director of the Port of New York and New Jersey.
“After we learned of the economic growth and the attractions in the area surrounding New York Stewart and the benefits the airport has, we did not hesitate and believe that this is a great opportunity… There is also a lot of expectations and excitement for PLAY’s operations at New York Stewart among the local economy and various stakeholders in the area,” says Birgir Jónsson, CEO of PLAY.
