MILFORD, PA. - A Pike County Jail Guard was sentenced in Pike County Court for bringing a controlled substance, buprenorphine, commonly known as suboxone, onto the grounds of the Pike County Correctional Facility with the intention to provide the substance to an inmate.
Michael Spensieri, age 40, of Blooming Grove Township previously entered a plea of guilty to the crimes of Contraband, Criminal Use of a Communication Facility, and Conspiracy to Commit to Delivery of a Controlled Substance, all felonies. Pike County President Judge Gregory H. Chelak sentenced Spensieri to a total sentence of not less than 42 months up to 132 months in a state correctional facility along with a fine of $3,000.00.
Last year, detectives at the District Attorney’s Office received information Spensieri was willing to bring in the controlled substance/contraband suboxone into the Pike County Correctional Facility and deliver the controlled substance to an inmate.
Detectives set up a sting operation to nab Spensieri in the act of bringing the controlled substance to the jail on a day he was coming into work. After confronting Spensieri upon his arrival at the facility, detectives obtained a search warrant for Spensieri’s cellular phone and vehicle. With the assistance of the Pennsylvania State Police, detectives discovered a “hidden” compartment located behind the entertainment screen of the vehicle. Detectives observed $500 in U.S. Currency and a plastic bag containing buprenorphine strips within the compartment.
Spensieri has been held at another correctional facility pending the outcome of the case. He will now be transferred to a state correctional facility to begin serving his sentence.
