PennDOT gives updates on routes 652 and 371

WAYNE COUNTY, PA — Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) spokesperson Mike Taluto offered updates on two patches of road in Wayne County that have been causing drivers particular stress this week.

Construction is ongoing on Route 371 in Damascus, near Tyler Hill, due to a pipe failure. There is a detour in place that takes drivers to Callicoon Road. While work was initially supposed to be finished by this week, according to roadwork updates from PennDOT, the project manager now expects the road to be reopened by July 12. That date is dependent on a bridge inspection and weather.

On Route 652, just before the bridge into Narrowsburg, the roadway began sliding away, cracking the pavement and causing a significant "dip" that has alarmed drivers in recent weeks. PennDOT patched the road as a temporary fix and plans to close it down to one lane after the July 4 holiday. The lane closure will remain until crews decide how to handle repairs on that section of road.

The River Reporter will continue issuing updates on these road conditions and others.
