TOWN OF TUSTEN, NY — Construction for a pavilion in the Tusten Multi-Generational Park, originally scheduled to be completed before Halloween, has faced weather-related delays and remains in progress.
The project, first proposed more than a year ago, faced strong support and dissent before the town board ultimately moved forward with the project and began construction in October 2024.
The structure is being built by Delaware Valley Job Corps, free of labor cost to the town under a work-based learning agreement. Josh Campfield, home builder institute instructor at the Delaware Valley Job Corps, gave the board an update at the January meeting.
“As soon as the weather breaks, we’ll be back down there making some progress,” he said.
The students don’t have full-weather gear and can’t be out when it’s below 30 degrees, Campfield said. He added that the students left for winter break in mid-December, which contributed to the slow progress. Campfield said there is about a week’s worth of work remaining to complete the project.
Board member Kevin McDonough asked if the materials that have been sitting outside and exposed are at risk of damage from the elements. Campfield said no. The materials came from 84 Lumber, based in Hawley, PA, costing $10,540.71 according to the town board.
