HARRISBURG, PA — Pennsylvania’s inventory of all hogs and pigs on March 1 found 1.47 million head. This was up one percent from March last year, but down three percent from December 1, 2024, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, Quarterly Hogs and Pigs report.
Breeding inventory at 145,000 head was down three percent from last year, and down nine percent from the previous quarter.
Market hog inventory at 1.33 million head was up one percent from last year, but down two percent from last quarter.
The December 2024 to February 2025 pig crop at 598,000 head was up 10 percent from last year. Sows farrowing during this period totaled 52,000 head, up 13 percent from 2024. The average pigs saved per litter was 11.5 for the December-February period, down three percent from last year.
