OTISVILLE, NY — On Saturday April 12, in celebration of Earth Day, the Orange County 4-H Green Minds, Bright Futures program will host an educational event in which youth can dive into the world of solar energy with geologist Kenneth Daubert. This interactive celebration, to be held at Education Center & 4-H Park, will provide hands-on activities that inspire young minds to explore renewable energy and the Earth’s natural wonders, a press release stated.
Participants will engage in solar energy experiments, learn how solar panels generate electricity and discuss the importance of renewable energy in combating climate change. In addition, youth will discover the fascinating world beneath their feet through geological activities such as rock and mineral identification, understanding erosion and learning about the geological history of their local area.
“Earth Day is a perfect opportunity to engage youth in science-based learning that connects them with the environment,” said Kat Leo, STEM educator for Orange County 4-H. “By exploring solar energy and geology, young people will gain a deeper appreciation for the natural world and the importance of sustainable solutions.”
There is no charge to attend.
The event is open to 4-H members and non-members alike, and is designed to be an engaging experience for youth of all ages. Families are encouraged to attend and explore the interactive exhibits, participate in challenges and learn how they can contribute to a more sustainable future.
