SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — Two Republican candidates vying to represent NYS Assembly District 100 are on the GOP state primary ballot on Thursday, June 25.

The 100th encompasses most of Sullivan County and a portion of Orange County in the Middletown area. Camille O’Brien of Sullivan and Lou Ingrassia Jr. of Orange are running to fill the seat being vacated by Democrat Aileen Gunther, who is retiring after serving in the Assembly for more than 20 years.

The winner will run against Democrat Paula Kay in the general election on November 5. Kay had no challengers in the Democratic primary.

Camille O’Brien

O’Brien has worked for NYS Senator Mike Martucci (R, 42) and NYS Senator Peter Oberacker Jr. (R, 51).

“I managed the Sullivan County district office to work with constituents, towns, fire districts, first responders, law enforcement, businesses, an organizations to navigate their state issues,” she says on her website (camilleobrien.com). “My knowledge and community involvement led me to be hired by Sullivan County to manage the county’s Drug Task Force, where I continue to work to alleviate the excessive burden that has been placed on our law enforcement and first responders like EMS squads that deserve to be deemed an essential service. Our state needs to be doing more to protect New Yorkers.”

She said she is running “to break the supermajority in the NYS Legislature, get us back to passing more conservative legislation, and restoring balance to the state budget.

She received the official endorsement of the Sullivan County Republican Committee and received an endorsement from the NYS Conservative Party, which canceled its primary this year. She has also been endorsed by the Teamsters Local 445 for the primary.

Lou Ingrassia Jr.

Ingrassia has been a member of the Howells Volunteer Fire Department for 42 years and has worked for the Town of Wallkill Department of Public Works for 37 years. “In my capacity as a fire chief, fire commissioner, and as a former Orange County deputy fire coordinator, I have helped to strengthen our emergency services to improve response times and equipment for our rural communities,” he says on his website (louingrassia.com). “From my days as a laborer in the water/sewer department, to my current position as DPW Commissioner, I’ve strived to improve our region’s roads, bridges, parks and water/sewer infrastructure.”

He said he will “fight to ensure that our region receives its fair share in state resources to make needed investments in our roads, highways, and clean water/sewer infrastructure; as well as additional support for our first responders, police, EMS and firefighters.

“I will also fight to end the state’s dangerous sanctuary policies that are costing New York taxpayers.”

He received the official Orange County Republican Committee's endorsement.
