Paul Matthew Vollmer of Dunnellon, FL, age 95, passed away October 23, 2022 at Cypress Cove Care Center, Crystal River, FL, to go to his heavenly reward. He was born April 28, 1927 in Barryville, NY to Matthew and Hazel Swendsen Vollmer.

Paul, a WWII Veteran, served on the USS Kent Island during his Navy years, after which he worked as a carpenter while raising a family with his wife, Rosalie David Vollmer, in Frederick, MD. After retirement, he moved to Florida, traveling, fishing, volunteering at his church and building houses.

He is preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Rosalie David Vollmer, and second wife Isabelle Burke Vollmer; siblings Vera Hayes, Clara Schmalzle, and Cecil “Bud” Vollmer. Paul is survived by his sister Carol Swingle; children Allan Vollmer (Karen), Donald Vollmer (Evelyn), Kathy Vollmer, and Russell Vollmer (Stephanie); by nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Paul’s formative years “up on the hill” and in the woods of the Barryville and Minisink Ford areas were never far from his thoughts. Hunting, fishing York Lake, adventures with cousins and other extended family and friends, provided many stories that he related with a chuckle and a twinkle in his eyes. Even as a boy, his talent for building things was evident. His wry sense of humor stayed with him all his life.

Interment will be held at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.

Those wishing to do so can donate in his name to a Hospice group of their choice.
