David Anthony Buddenhagen, 87, of Hortonville, NY, passed away on June 4, 2022. We want to thank the Garnet Health Medical Center Callicoon, NY and Harris, NY campuses for their care and compassion.

He was very outgoing and always smiling, bringing joy and love to so many others. He committed his entire life to his family and community, never holding back from someone who needed help and never holding back his emotions. He was loved by all who knew him.

He was the co-owner, manager, and salesman at Buddenhagen’s Ford until 1990, and was Sullivan County Deputy Fire Coordinator for nearly 10 years, a Hortonville Volunteer Fire Department past chief and member for 68 years, Tamarack Farm Deer Club member, Hortonville Presbyterian Church member and Navy veteran. An avid fisherman, outdoorsman, hunter and social butterfly, he was often seen around town visiting family and friends in his side-by-side.

He was born in Callicoon and was a member of the first graduating class of Delaware Valley Central School. He married Shirley Ann Bogert in 1957 and their marriage and life together were filled with much laughter and love. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leona Reichmann and Anthony Buddenhagen.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife Shirley of almost 65 years, his daughter Cathy Buddenhagen Wilcox, her husband Brian and their children Niesha and Robbie; Cindy Buddenhagen Menges, her husband Keith and their daughter Kendall; his sister Donna and husband Harold Roeder; and a long list of beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family is forever grateful to his incredible caregivers, Annie, Melanie, Tammy, Niesha and Mark and dear friend Paul.

A memorial service was held at the Hortonville Presbyterian Church on June 8 at 11 a.m., with Pastor Ginny Bossley officiating.  A time of joyful remembrance, food and fellowship followed at the Hortonville Volunteer Fire Department. Memorial donations can be made to the Hortonville Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 71, Hortonville, NY 12745 or Hortonville Presbyterian Church, PO Box 15, Hortonville, NY 12745.
