TRENTON, NJ — The written comment deadline on the Delaware River Basin Commission’s proposed regulations addressing imports of water to and exports of water from the Delaware River Basin has been extended to Monday, February 28, 2022. Part of this proposal includes a ban on the discharge of wastewater from high volume hydraulic fracturing and related activities to basin lands and waters. Four public hearings are scheduled in December—all will be held virtually.

For complete information, including how to participate in the public hearings and submit written comments, visit www.nj.gov/drbc/meetings/proposed/notice_import-export-rules.html.

The DRBC recently published a new report titled “Water Withdrawal and Consumptive Use Estimates for the Delaware River Basin (1990-2017) with Projections through 2060.” The report analyzes 30 years of historic withdrawal data and projects withdrawal demands to the year 2060. Staff recently developed an application (using Power BI) that allows you to explore/visualize all the data in the report. Data can be filtered and also downloaded. Check it out at https://www.nj.gov/drbc/programs/supply/use-demand-projections2060.html.

The DRBC’s quarterly business meeting will take place virtually on Wednesday, December 8, beginning at 10:30 a.m.  In addition to the completion of regular Commission business, the meeting will also highlight the DRBC’s 60th anniversary.

For information on how to participate in the meeting, visit https://www.nj.gov/drbc/meetings/upcoming/index.html.
