Community electronic collection event, November 9

Posted

Clean air. Friendly neighbors. Quiet evenings. There is much to get used to when moving to Narrowsburg, NY. Perhaps the hardest thing was getting used to private trash pick-up. Many is the weekend our small payload in the car is filled with banana peels, coffee grinds and other debris. Never, however, have we brought back electronics for there are very specific rules for disposing of such items.

What to do? Well that problem has been taken care of. On Saturday, November 9 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, the Narrowsburg Union, Tusten Lions Club and Catskill Hudson Bank in conjunction with Advanced Recycling will be sponsoring a community electronics collection event.

For the cost of $20 per carload and $40 per trailer, you can drop off air conditioners, dehumidifiers and humidifiers ($20 extra for those items) as well as computers, servers, monitors, printers, keyboards, VCRs (remember those?), phones, cables, fax machines, radios, modems, TVs and just about every other item you tried to give to Salvation Army.

Please note they specifically will not be accepting speakers, batteries, wooden consoles, wood, glass, light bulbs, VHS tapes, CDs or DVDs.

Schools, businesses and government agencies are also able to participate if they pre-register. Note, their participation fee is $100.

The convenience of this event is not to be underestimated. Recycling these items can be very difficult, costly and time consuming. This is the opportunity to make your mom’s day and get rid of your Mac Performa or Betamax VCR. Delight in her stunned silence as you take away everything she has been asking you to take care of for years. Preemptively beat your spouse to the honey-do list, which awaits you every Saturday. This is your chance to be a hero in your home and for the environment.

Thanks to all involved behind the scenes or in line.

So, we’ll see you Saturday, November 9 at the Narrowsburg Union, located at 7 Erie Ave. Be sure to check those old VCRs for embarrassing tapes of choir concerts, t-ball games and who knows what else.
