FALLSBURG, NY — Avi Kahan of Monroe, NY, was taken into custody at the scene of a reported drowning at Loch Sheldrake. He was charged with Obstructing Firefighting Operations, a misdemeanor.
According to the Town of Fallsburg Police Department, its police patrol observed a Loch Sheldrake firefighter tell two uninvolved people that they could not walk through the fire scene. The Fallsburg police then told both people the same thing. One of them, Kahan, refused to comply.
Kahan was released on an appearance ticket and is due back in the Town of Fallsburg Justice Court at a later date.
Multiple outside agencies, including other police agencies and fire personnel, assisted the Fallsburg police at the scene.
