KAUNEONGA LAKE, NY — On Sunday, July 12, Bethel Motor Speedway hosted a varied program of motorsports racing action on the local legendary quarter-mile asphalt oval.

Members of the Atlantic Coast Old Timers Auto Racing Club (ACOT) returned with a fascinating array of vintage cars, including club president Keith Majka’s recently acquired restored 1952 Offy-powered sprint car #98, second vice-president Dennis White’s glittering #92 and Richard Belmonte’s chopped down coupe #43, a vintage ride that calls forth memories of moonshine runner Robert Mitchum in the 1958 black & white film classic “Thunder Road.”

Steve Conklin, a noted long-time driver at Bethel Motor Speedway, left his modified at home but showed up with his 1939 Chevy street rod, a ride that proved to be a real hit with the fans lined up by the track’s concession stand.
