Mary Elizabeth Huntington, 75, of Eldred, NY, died Thursday, March 25, 2021 at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY. Mary was born on December 13, 1945 in Callicoon, NY, the daughter of the late Louis and Edith Rutledge Maudsley.

Mary graduated in 1963 from Eldred Central School and attended State University of New York in Oswego. She moved to Ridge in Long Island, NY and from there to Orlando, FL where, unknowingly, she arrived the same day as her future husband, James B. Huntington. Mary retired as an underwriter from Philadelphia Insurance Co. in Orlando in 2010. She was a highly active and faithful member of her churches, including St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Windermere, FL, the Eldred United Methodist Church and, until her death, the Eldred Congregational Church. She was a former member of the Town of Highland Lions Club.

Mary loved cats, beading, card games, jewelry, her relatives, Chico’s, her fellow parishioners, following politics and, most of all, her husband, to whom she was a wonderful wife and the love of his life. He will forever miss her interest in him, her cooking (including the best homemade pizza in the world, to which he looked forward every Friday), her cheerfulness, her companionship, her support during his crises, her attending his activities, her excellence as a travel companion, their overall compatibility and vastly more. For him, she made the years they had together the good old days.

Mary is survived by her husband of Eldred, NY; her two furry children, Cleo and Andy; her sisters Amy Benedict and her husband, Jeril, of Houston, TX and Bonnie Cohen of Staten Island, NY; her brother, Kevin Maudsley, and his wife, Karen, of Lexington, KY, her aunt, Doris Day of Honesdale, PA; and three nieces, two nephews and numerous cousins.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, April 9t at the Eldred Congregational Church. Rev. Susan Storms will officiate. Interment will immediately follow at Montoza Cemetery in Eldred. Memorial contributions can be made in Mary’s name to the Eldred Congregational Church, P. O. Box 116, Eldred, NY 12732. Flowers are also welcome. Arrangements are by the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis, NY. For information, directions, or to send a condolence note to the family, visit www.knight-auchmoody.com
