GLEN SPEY, NY — Following a public hearing that featured no comments, the Lumberland town board met at its monthly workshop on November 6 and adopted a $2,586,648 budget for 2020.
The budget figure represented a 1.34 percent, or $34,118, increase in the amount to be raised by taxes. Total appropriations were $3,331,248.
Supervisor Jenny Mellan highlighted a $30,000 saving in the town’s health insurance and an across-the-board salary increase for town employees.
The vote was 4-1. Councilman James Akt was opposed, but did not provide any further comment.
In other business, Mellan noted that the town engineer reported the completion of the new $74,423.80 roof on the former highway garage, now serving as the school district’s bus garage.
Jacqueline Ricciani, attorney for the planning and zoning boards, gave an extensive report on the two-year effort of the town’s zoning review committee.
The committee had been tasked to review the ordinance for inconsistencies, make recommendations for RV and travel trailer setbacks and storage, and recommend more comprehensive orders regarding solar energy.
