KAUNENGA LAKE, NY — If crashing cars into each other isn’t dangerous enough, there’s always the risk of fire and entrapment if things don’t go exactly as planned.
With that in mind, three local volunteer fire departments, along with Catskill Regional Medical Center’s Mobilemedic, were on hand during a demotion derby at Bethel Motor Speedway on September 20.
While no fires had to be extinguished, one driver injured his hand and was treated by paramedics.
Meanwhile, firefighters from Kauneonga Lake, White Lake and White Sulphur Springs were called into duty to spray water on the improvised clay-packed demo derby track. The slippery surface served to keep the speeds down and also provided a mud-slinging experience for the fans as the drivers propelled their cars around the track in search of the perfect hit.
