LIBERTY, NY — On May 2 at approximately 7:30 p.m. officers with the Village of Liberty Police Department responded to a 911 call for a child in cardiac arrest at the Knights Inn Motel on State Route 52 in the Village of Liberty. Responding officers found a 16-month-old female child unconscious and unresponsive in the lobby of the motel.
Responding officers along with Emergency Medical Service first responders attempted to perform life-saving measures and transported the child via ambulance to Garnet Medical Center - Catskills. The child was pronounced deceased at Garnet Medical Center - Catskills.
The Village of Liberty Police Department along with the New York State Police and the Sullivan County District Attorney's Office immediately began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child's death. As a result of that investigation, the Village of Liberty Police Department arrested Jimmie Luvert, 41 and Lisa Keitt, 26 both of Liberty. Luvert and Keitt were both charged with criminally negligent homicide, a felony and 2 counts of endangering the welfare of a child, misdemeanors.
Both individuals were arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court. Luvert was remanded to Sullivan County Jail without bail and Keitt was remanded to Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $500,000 cash bail, a $1,000,000 secured bond, or a $2,000,000 partially secured bond. Both Luvert and Keitt are due to return to the Town of Liberty Court on 05/3/23 at 2 p.m.
