Who is Andy Hahn, and why vote him onto the Callicoon Town Board?

When I found out about Andy Hahn’s run for the Callicoon Town Board, I considered writing a letter to the editor, but then I thought “Everyone knows Andy, and he’s going to win without my taking the time.” Well, maybe everyone doesn’t really know Andy Hahn. So, I’ve decided to put pen to paper.

I first met Andy, like so many of us, when I “discovered” Hilly Acres Farm meats at The Callicoon Farmers’ Market. His generous spirit was evident as I witnessed him help fellow vendors in both large and small ways. Always ready to lend a hand, often without anyone’s asking, it became clear that Andy was what my Dad would call “a standup guy.” That was the highest praise from my father; it meant someone you could count on, someone who would put himself out with no expectation of reward.

Over the years, it became clear that Andy Hahn was the real-deal, a man who worked long and hard to bring the best to market, not cutting corners even when it would cost him extra time and money to do the right thing. He treated his animals as he treated us, the people in his much loved community, with kindness and respect. I’ve heard first-hand accounts, from friends and neighbors, each one telling about a moment that Andy took time to lend a helping hand.

I encourage you to get to know Andy; his intelligence, ability to remain calm and focused in times of crisis, and open minded good sense will make him a fine board member. I fully expect he will serve on the board in the same way that he runs his farm: with kindness, transparency, and thoughtful consideration of the matters that affect us all so deeply.

Russell Reeves for Sullivan County clerk

The Sullivan County Clerk’s office has many responsibilities and functions. They include, but are not limited to, the recording and filing of deeds, mortgages, judgments, pistol permits, passports, notes of issue, naturalization of our new citizens and the FAVOR program (granting merchant discounts to our honorably discharged veterans), to name but a few. We are also local agents for the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles.
In order to insure continuity in the effective and efficient operation of the office, I am supporting Russell Reeves for Sullivan County Clerk. Russell, who I appointed as deputy county clerk about a year-and-a-half ago, has been working side-by-side with me during that time and has proven to have the right temperament and leadership skills for the position.

Russell has helped implement the electronic filing of civil documents as well as the electronic recording of land documents. This use of technology has helped modernize the Sullivan County Clerk’s Office. In addition, he has personally arranged for New York State to administer the notary exam locally, enabling more local professionals to become notaries.

It has been a privilege serving as your county clerk these past 12 years, and I would like to thank you for your support in allowing me to do so. I am asking that you extend that same courtesy to Russell Reeves, electing him as your next Sullivan County Clerk.
