Learn how to operate small engines

LIBERTY, NY — Tractors aren’t the only machinery that are crucial to farm operation and ownership. Small engine machinery such as chainsaws, weed whackers and walk-behind tractors are essential to operations as well.

To show resident farmers the basics of small engines and how to run them, Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County’s Beginner Farmer Program is working with SG Tractors to host a training on small engine operation at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15 at the Extension Education Center.

Participants will meet with and learn from SG, the workshop educator from SG Tractors. Participants will learn about the mechanisms of walk-behind tractors, four-stroke and two-stroke engines, and how all parts function. Throughout the workshop, participants will have hands-on learning opportunities and will be guided through demonstrations and video tutorials.

This will be an interactive workshop. A question-and-answer session on the topics covered will close out the workshop.

There is no fee, but pre-registration is required to participate. Participants can register online at www.sullivancce.org/events. Those with related questions or in need of accommodations can email Taylor Adam at beginnerfarmer@cornell.edu or call 845/292-6180 ext. 130.

This program is supported by the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture award #2022-06508, through the American Rescue Plan Technical Assistance Investment Program.
