LA PLUME, PA — On November 21, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) acted to remove accreditation from Keystone College.
According to MSCHE, Keystone College failed to provide evidence that demonstrated compliance with commission standards for accreditation, failed to demonstrate the capacity to make required improvements and failed to demonstrate that it can sustain itself in the short or long term.
Keystone has the opportunity to appeal. "The college will exercise its right to appeal this adverse action, and retains accreditation status during the appeal process," reads a statement on the college's website.
Accreditation is a process by which non-governmental bodies conduct peer assessments on educational institutions and programs to ensure they are operating at basic levels of quality, according to information from the United States Department of Education website. In order for students to receive federal student aid, their institution must be accredited by a naturally recognized accrediting agency.
