It’s time to get ready for school

Hello, August! It’s hard to believe we are heading into the last month of summer vacation. It has been a great summer so far, and we are looking to continue filling it up with memories for our children.

A large portion of this month will be filled with the Grahamsville Fair, located in Neversink. This year is the 142nd annual fair, and it offers three days of family fun. Should you need us, we will be at the horse barn.

Here are some other upcoming local events.

The 160th Wayne County Fair is happening from Friday, August 5 through Saturday, August 13. Pay one price for admission, $12 per person, which includes rides all day, parking, most entertainment, animals and exhibits.

Join the Cochecton Youth Commission (CYC) on a trip to the Carousel in Beach Lake, PA for two events. On Monday, August 1, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Friday, August 12, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the CYC will enjoy unlimited use of the Carousel park, including water activities, so bring your suits.

Sign-ups for each event will be held at the Carousel 15 minutes prior to start time. Contact Michelle at 570/419-8801 for questions about the August 1 trip and Heather at 845/796-6976 for questions about the August 12 trip.

There is no charge for Cochecton youth, and each child will get a sweet surprise. Adults can pay to join the fun.

Note that there are height requirements on activities, and an adult may need to ride with their child.

This event is for children aged three and up. The programs are funded in full or in part by the Sullivan County Youth Bureau.

Senior Coffee Club is happening on Monday, August 8 at 10:30 a.m. at the Liberty Public Library. Call 845/292-6070 for more information.

The second annual Hurleyville Summer Festival will take place on Thursday, August 18 at 4 p.m. Back by popular demand, the festival will be on Main Street in beautiful Hurleyville, NY. There will be local business specials, food trucks, vendors of all kinds, live entertainment, fun kids’ activities with prizes.

It is almost that time; we’re getting ready to go back to school. This means finding school supplies, shoes, clothes, sporting equipment and more.

Be sure to plan ahead for school physicals, dental visits and such. I know that I am usually scrambling at the last minute to schedule those appointments.

If you have a local business that you would like to have spotlighted in an upcoming column, get in touch. Email jenn@jennpowelldesigns.com with any news, events and happenings.
