Introduction to the Wayne County Community Foundation

Posted

Vision: The Wayne County Community Foundation envisions supporting a thriving, collaborative and vibrant Wayne County.

Who:

Founded in 1991 by a group of dedicated community members, the Wayne County Community Foundation has deep roots in the community in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The Foundation acts as a ‘one-stop shop’ for philanthropic giving to support grants to local nonprofit organizations, scholarships and field of interest funds.  The Foundation continues to be invested in the idea that community foundations serve the needs of the entire county now and in the future.

What:

A community foundation is a tax exempt public charity that enables people to establish charitable funds. The donor funds are managed professionally, thereby yielding a maximum return. The assets in these funds grow over time, creating the ability to fund programs using the interest while preserving the principal. This creates a lasting endowment and continual stream of funding. Grants are awarded to support local nonprofit organizations, in accordance with your interests.

Why:

The Wayne County Community Foundation Mission: To preserve and enhance the quality of life for all people in Wayne County. The Foundation invests in our community by growing our permanent endowment, encouraging philanthropy and innovation, supporting charitable activities and assessing and addressing community needs.

“It was my honor to serve as The Foundation’s executive director for almost half of its 30 years and I can attest to The Foundation being directly responsible for the successes of hundreds of projects sponsored the incredible diverse number of nonprofit Wayne County organizations. Concerts, art exhibits, nature trails, historic building renovations, fire safety, food banks, programs for special needs individuals—and the list could go on. This is not to overshadow the thousands of dollars awarded in  50 scholarships each year. The Foundation’s motto, “Investing in Our Future,” truly stands as a pledge to help all the citizens in our county.”
