January 30, 2018. Following an inch of rain at historic Calkins Creek, near Milanville, ice was gouged and spun away last week - and stacked into “jams,” as in my 1/27 photograph.
Sealed into each icy block are “timeless” raindrops – which carved the original Upper Delaware Valley, and created glaciers when mammoths roamed its parts.

Though less dramatic, “modern ice” continues to scour, and along the big Delaware River creates “ice meadows” devoid of mature trees.
