REGION — Most people who were here in June of 1972 remember the flood.

Hurricane Agnes devastated communities along the Susquehanna River and many cities and towns in New York’s Southern Tier.

To commemorate the upcoming 50th anniversary of the disaster, Pittston, PA-based TV station WVIA will air a new original documentary, “Agnes 50: Life After the Flood,” on Thursday, June 23 at 9 p.m.

The broadcast will cover what we have learned since Agnes and what actions have communities taken to prevent severe flooding since then. What should we be doing in order to prepare for the challenges of severe flooding in the future?

Multiple broadcasts relating to Agnes will be shown on June 23, and there is an ongoing effort to collect oral histories of that day in 1972.
