TEXAS TOWNSHIP, PA — An 81-year-old man is dead as the result of an exploding propane heater during a hunting incident.
Pennsylvania State Police say that Gregory Scheer of Florida—who formerly lived in this area—was hunting on the wooded property of a friend in Texas Township near Honesdale. The property owner heard an explosion and went to check on Scheer and found him deceased.
Police think the propane heater malfunctioned or was improperly connected and caused the explosion and fire. Two propane bottles also exploded, investigators say.
The incident is being investigated by Wayne County Coroner Edward Howell, who performed an autopsy. The explosion is also being investigated by a fire marshal.
