HAWLEY, PA — A fundraising walk to help fight pancreatic cancer and to support local businessman Mark Crouthamel will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, at the Wallenpaupack Area High School track. The event is sponsored by the Paupack United Methodist Church.
Crouthamel, who owns Pocono Axe Works and Sculpted Ice Works in Lakeville, is undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer in Philadelphia. Half the proceeds from the walk will help fund his treatment, and half will be donated to the Pancreatic Cancer (PenCan) Action Network, which funds research, testing and patient and caregiver services.
Walkers of all abilities are welcome to take a turn or two around the track or venture out along the Wallenpaupack Trail. A minimum donation of $20 is suggested, and participants are asked to wear purple, the official color of pancreatic awareness.
The walk has been dubbed the “Purple Stride.”
Walkers can register and donate at the time of the event, or you can preregister by calling Kathleen Helfrich at 570/878-4495 or emailing her at cpma@ptd.net.
