The snow has finally come to pay us a visit, and we have been able to get out to ski a few times so far this winter. I am still hoping to try snowshoeing this year. I have heard great things about Morgan Outdoors in Hurleyville for rentals, and they have the rail trail right there to try the snowshoes out.

The snow has finally come to pay us a visit, and we have been able to get out to ski a few times so far this winter. I am still hoping to try snowshoeing this year. I have heard great things about Morgan Outdoors in Hurleyville for rentals, and they have the rail trail right there to try the snowshoes out.

Join a book club! The Western Sullivan Public Library hosts a monthly book club. The next book at the club hosted at the Jeffersonville branch is “The Underground Railroad,” by Colson Whitehead. Join the book discussion group, which meets on the second Friday of the month. The next session is Friday, February 10 at 4 p.m.

Did you receive a Cricut for the holidays? Join Sara Diehl and others for a Cricut meet-up at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15 at the Jeffersonville branch of the Western Sullivan Library.  Discuss your machine’s capabilities, and share the latest tips and tricks for making your current project. Happening this upcoming weekend: the annual Youth Ice Fishing Tournament, in memory of Gerald “Jerry” Bruce Sheppard. It’s hosted by Smugglers Nob Rod & Gun Club, and takes place on Saturday, February 4 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Mitchell Pond in Cochecton, NY. Bring kids of all ages out for a day of ice fishing. All kids fish for free. There will be food and beverages for all kids who participate, and all children will be eligible for prizes. Transportation will be provided by club members; no outside ATV/UTVs are allowed. Registration will be at entry. Fishing regulations are in accordance with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. Support the Audra Sipple-Spath Scholarship Fund benefit basketball games on Saturday, February 11 at the Sullivan West High School gymnasium. Games begin at 11 a.m. and run through the day, ending with a 3:45 p.m. girls’ varsity basketball game. Admission is by a free-will donation, and concessions will be available. Support our Sullivan West teams and a great cause that honors an amazing woman. 

It is almost time for the big game! Lakeview Pizza & Bar, located at 23 Crestwood Rd. in Lake Huntington, NY, will host a Big Game tailgate bash. The event takes place Sunday, February 12, starting at 5:30 p.m. Tickets cost $30 in advance or $35 at the door. The ticket price includes an all-you-can-eat buffet and all you can drink (keg beer only). For ticket sales or info, call Chris or Christine at 845/932-8131.
