MIDDLETOWN, NY — Garnet Health recently announced new technology for its advanced heart care. Farapulse, now available at Garnet Health Medical Center, is a pulsed field ablation (PFA) system “transforming the treatment of atrial fibrillation (AFib) by providing a safer, more precise, minimally invasive solution.”

AFib is a common heart-rhythm problem in which the heart beats irregularly and too fast. If left untreated, it can lead to serious health conditions such as an increased risk of stroke or heart failure. Traditional ablation procedures use heat (radio frequency) or cold (cryoablation) to destroy the problematic heart tissue causing AFib. While effective, these methods carry risks of damaging surrounding structures. PFA targets irregular heart rhythms using short, high-energy, nonthermal electrical pulses to selectively target and disable the faulty heart cells causing AFib—thus reducing the risk of damage to surrounding tissue and organs.
