MONTICELLO, NY — There’s an adage that history repeats itself, and that was the case on Saturday, April 26 as a trio of Boy Scouts were honored by the local community during an Eagle Court of Honor ceremony conducted at St. Peter’s Center.
On April 26, three local Boy Scouts from BSA Troop 101 of Rock Hill joined the ranks of Eagle Scouts: brothers Anthony Patrick LaRusso, Fredric John Schutte II and Scott Robert LaRusso.
In her letter to the community at large, proud parent Victoria LaRusso wrote in part, “These Eagle Scout projects were completed at St. Peter’s in Liberty, NY, a place that holds a special place in their lives. They dedicated many hours and worked diligently to bring their projects to life, and we are so proud of their accomplishments.”
“The support and encouragement from Fr. Bader and the parish community have meant so much to them along the way,” she added. “Earning the rank of Eagle Scout is a rare and significant achievement.”
Guest speakers included state Sen. Peter Oberacker; Assemblywoman Paula Kay; the Hon. E. Danielle Jose-Decker; Sullivan County Clerk Russell Reeves; Nadia Rajsz, chairwoman of the Sullivan County Legislature; and Howie Goldsmith and John Lacey, who represented the American Legion.
Dr. Matthew Evans, superintendent of Monticello Central School District, and Dr. Kathleen Bressler, superintendent of Sullivan West Central School District, took special pride during the ceremony by recognizing their respective Eagle Scout students.
At the close of the Eagle Scout Court of Honor, Fr. Bob Porpora led those assembled with a benediction and grace, Troop 101 retired the colors, and taps was performed by Brent Murran.
