REGIONAL — Here is where we typically include leisurely events for the week ahead: art shows, live music and theatrical performances, but the current times require sharing different information.
In an effort to suppress the spread of COVID-19 and keep our healthcare systems from becoming overwhelmed, the following places, organizations and events have announced cancellations. The times ahead will be difficult for businesses and workers, but the following are responsible community responses to the pandemic. Waiting until the worst of the outbreak to act will be too late; we won’t know if we’ve done too much to prevent its spread, but it will become very apparent if we’ve done too little.
As of Monday, March 16, NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo said that all casinos, gyms, movie theaters, bars and restaurants will be closed until further notice. So far, PA Gov. Tom Wolf has closed bars and restaurants in Allegheny, Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties. For all other counties, he has urged a close to all non-essential businesses, but it is not being enforced. See our story on Pennsylvania and New York for more detailed information.

NARROWSBURG, NY — The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance is putting the following cautionary measures in place: Public hours will be limited to Fridays (12 noon to 5 p.m.) and Saturdays (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.); all other visits must be made by appointment. WAYNE COUNTY, PA — All libraries in Pennsylvania, including the seven libraries in Wayne County, will be closed until Sunday, March 29 as per a directive from the Office of Commonwealth Libraries and PA Department of Education. Check social media pages for updates.
PIKE COUNTY, PA — All libraries in Pennsylvania, including the Milford and Dingman Township libraries, will be closed until Sunday, March 29. All due dates have been extended to Monday, March 30. Check social media pages for updates.
SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — All branches of the Western Sullivan Public Library (located in Narrowsburg, Callicoon and Jeffersonville) will be closed through Sunday, March 29. The online collection is available to patrons 24.7. Visit www.wsplonline.org and check its Facebook page, as it will be updated frequently.
ELDRED, NY — The Sunshine Hall Free Library will be closed until Saturday, March 28 at 10 p.m. There will be no fines. Updates and additional information can be found at www.sunshinehallfreelibrary.org or on its Facebook page.
LIBERTY, NY — The Liberty Public Library is closed until further notice. No fines will accrue on library materials. Tax forms and free books will be available in the hallway outside the library’s front doors. Patrons can also borrow free books and audiobooks online at www.rcls.overdrive.com.
LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — The Livingston Manor Free Library will be closed until further notice. E-books are available online and fines are being waived. Stay updated by following www.livingstonmanorlibrary.org.
MONTICELLO, NY — The Ethelbert B. Crawford Public Library will be closed until future notice. All programs and room bookings have been canceled through Tuesday, March 31. No fines will be charged during this time. Check for updates at www.ebcpl.org.
PORT JERVIS, NY — The Port Jervis Free Library will be closed through Sunday, March 29. The library will reopen on Monday, March 30 at 10 a.m. It will provide regular updates at www.portjervislibrary.org and on its social media platforms as new information is available.
HONESDALE, PA — The Cooperage is suspending all programming until Friday, March 27. The open-air farmers’ market will still take place on Saturday, March 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to give people an opportunity to purchase healthy food from local farmers. MAMAKATING, NY — The Mamakating Environmental Center and its trails will remain open, but all programs are postponed until further notice. For more information and future updates, visit Mamakating Environmental Education & Interpretive Center on Facebook.
DINGMANS FERRY, PA — The Pocono Environmental Education Center will be canceling all indoor public programs until further notice. All outdoor public programs will run as scheduled. MONTICELLO, NY — The gaming floor is closed and all entertainment scheduled through Thursday, April 30 has been postponed. All purchased or issued tickets will be honored for the future dates. All hotel reservations beginning Tuesday, March 17 through Monday, March 30 will be canceled and refunded in full. HONESDALE, PA — SEEDS (Sustainable Energy and Education Development Support) “Resilient Regional Economies” presentation by renowned entrepreneur, author and acclaimed speaker, Judy Wicks has been rescheduled to a tentative date of Tuesday, September 15, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m, due to concerns related to the community spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
