Flames engulf Honesdale business

HONESDALE, PA — On the evening of Saturday, February 13 at around 6 p.m., a fire broke out at Dick Palmer and Sons Truck Service located on the Beach Lake Highway. A portion of Route 6 was closed down as multiple fire companies responded to the three-alarm fire.

According to the Tafton Fire Company, “Just about every fire department in Wayne County was dispatched for this fire,” as well as departments from neighboring counties. The building was severely damaged, but firefighters extinguished the flames before they spread to neighboring buildings, according to White Mills Fire & EMS.

One source said that the fire was difficult to get to because it was located between the ceiling and the roof. Several water-feeding sites were established. Evacuation tones were activated at one point when the roof began collapsing. No firefighters were reportedly injured. At press time, officials have not released the cause of the fire.

Volunteer fire companies thanked area businesses that donated food, water and supplies, as well as the county’s dispatchers.
