DINGMANS FERRY, PA — Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC) will host a series of events this January to keep you warmed up in the winter weather.
On Sunday, January 5 there will be a winter ecology hike from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Learn how different plants and animals survive the winter. All ages welcome. The cost is $5 per person.
There will be a winter tree ID on Saturday, January 11 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. No leaves, no problem. Learn how to identify trees by leaf scars, bundle scars, buds and bark. The program will consist of a basic dendrology lesson to acquaint participants with the identifying features that should be considered to confidently identify a tree and the terms used to describe these features. Participants will then go for a walk and practice using a tree key to identify the trees around us. The cost is $20 per person.
On Sunday, January 12, the EcoZone Discovery Room is open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Climb into a bald eagle’s nest, crawl into a bat cave, explore a beaver lodge and dig in a fossil pit. Explore this indoor discovery room and enjoy hands-on exhibits on natural history, sustainability and the local environment. No registration required. The cost is $3 per person.
