MONTICELLO, NY — The diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, or any other form of dementia, in a loved one brings with it an immediate onset of a unique sort of grief.To help care partners whose loved one has passed on in expressing their grief in a supportive atmosphere, Action Toward Independence (ATI) and Melinda’s Music are offering a free music therapy group called Over the Rainbow.
The group will meet virtually on Zoom the first Tuesday of every month beginning on February 1 at 1:30 p.m.
Formal music training is not necessary, but a love of music will be very helpful. Musical activities and other interaction will be offered. A computer, internet hookup and computer camera are required.
Melinda Marks Burgard has been practicing clinical music therapy for over 30 years. In her work with ATI, she will offer a variety of music therapy programs. Over the Rainbow was created to assist care partners with support and aid in the grieving process.

JEFFERSONVILLE, NY — It’s frigid! Help everyone stay warm by donating old and new winter clothing (especially socks and gloves) to the First Presbyterian Church’s Ark Thrift Store on Main Street in Jeffersonville.
Jessica Schwalb, a college freshman home on winter break, has organized the drive.
She is also collecting brand-new clothes with tags to aid the families affected by the recent Bronx fire, through the Westchester County government employees’ donation drive. There are drop-off sites at the Jeffersonville Bake Shop and at St. George’s Church and the First Presbyterian Church in Jeffersonville.
The clothing drive will run until March 10.

NARROWSBURG, NY — “The Record Museum: Moved by Music,” according to a news release, is a celebration of the record album and a tribute to the physical and tangible elements of a visceral, non-visual art form.
The exhibit features a curated selection of pieces from Record Museum founder John Philip Hamilton’s traveling collection of musical artifacts and ephemera and original works by local artists. It is co-curated by Krystal Grow.
The artists featured include Nick Clemente, Laurie Guzda, John Philip Hamilton, Jay Hostetler, Jeanette Moses and Andi Sumpter.
“The Record Museum: Moved by Music” will be on display through March 22.

Sullivan Renaissance will hold a grant workshop at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 2 on Zoom to explore these topics and more. Community organizations, churches, schools and businesses interested in the program can attend, learn about grant resources and meet with program staff.

NARROWSBURG, NY — The Upper Delaware Council (UDC) will host a video presentation on “Sexual Harassment Prevention Training for UDC Representatives and Alternates”, beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 3, via Zoom.
The meeting to follow will include status reports from the Delaware River Basin Commission, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, National Park Service, and the UDC executive director; discussion of old and new business; and public comment.

Thanks to the William H. Chatlos Charitable Gift Fund, Kelly Lewis, a broadband specialist, was hired to help secure accessible and affordable high-speed internet.
It’s the result of a joint venture between the county commissioners, the Chatlos Charitable Gift Fund and the Wayne County Community Foundation.
More funds are available through the CARES Act, the American Recovery Plan Act and more, all focused on improving rural broadband connectivity.

NEW YORK STATE — The New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) today endorsed U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, Gov. Kathy Hochul, Lt. Gov. Brian Benjamin, Attorney General Letitia James and Comptroller Tom DiNapoli for re-election.
All have demonstrated support for teachers, working people in general and organized labor, the union said.
NYSUT represents 600,000 members in education, human services and health care.

MIDDLETOWN, NY — You don’t have to be rich or have tons of spare time to exercise and eat healthily.
On Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m., beginning February 15, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Orange County (CCE) will offer a free six-week nutrition workshop series.
The classes will be held in person at CCE on Seward Avenue in Middletown and are geared toward income-eligible parents and caregivers raising children.
Each session lasts one hour.
Classes will end on April 5. Extra days have been blocked in for snow days and make-up classes.
COVID-19 safety protocols will be followed, including wearing masks.
What’s it about? You’ll learn how to get more active physically, learn about food safety and food security and improve behavior around food.

LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY — New Hope Community has appointed a new board chair and three new board members.
Robert Dinerstein, a law professor and founder/director of the Disability Rights Law Clinic at the American University Washington College of Law, will be the new chair of the board. Garnet Health—Catskills CEO Jonathan Schiller; SUNY Sullivan president Jay Quaintance and Terry Grafmuller, member of the Sullivan County Chamber Foundation board and Liberty Rotary are the new board members.
Schiller, Quaintance and Grafmuller began their first two-year term effective January 1 and can serve a maximum of six years.
New Hope Community cares for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and “actively advocates for individual choice in a person’s efforts to live, work and participate fully in his or her community,” a spokesperson said.
“We are excited to welcome such a strong group of new board leadership, and I look forward to their diverse expertise and insight each of them brings to our important work at New Hope Community,” said Chief Executive Officer Debbie McGinness.
MILFORD, PA ― The Pike County Veterans Affairs Office helps veterans with their federal, state and county benefits.

Aldi is voluntarily recalling Pure Being Cat and Dog Advent Calendars due to a potential choking hazard.
After receiving a small number of customer complaints and a discussion with the supplier, Aldi removed the products from its stores.
Both products are packaged in 5.15-ounce boxes.
If customers have products affected by the voluntary recall, they should discard them or return them to their local store for a full refund.
World Health Products, LLC, has issued an allergy recall on its Jetfuel Diuretic supplement due to undeclared milk. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk could run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume the product.
The recall has been initiated because the medium-chain triglycerides (MCT) oil powder among the ingredients contains an undeclared milk allergen. GAT Sport Jetfuel Diuretic was distributed through the GAT Sport online store, on Amazon and throughout the nation in its retail stores.

MILFORD, PA — The Pike County Historical Society will host Frank Salvati for a lecture on Joseph Brant and his soldiers, to be held on Saturday, February 5 at 4 p.m.in the Foundation Room at the Columns Museum.
Salvati will explain who the men of Brant’s Volunteers were, why they turned on their friends and neighbors, and why they were so loyal to the Mohawk chief. The lecturer will also discuss misconceptions regarding Brant himself.

The Delaware Highlands Conservancy (DHC) has scheduled its February Eagle Watch bus tours for Saturday, February 5 and Saturday, February 12.
The trips begin at 10 a.m. at the Delaware Highlands Conservancy’s Van Scott Nature Reserve in Beach Lake, PA, and end at 2 p.m.
The DHC asks that participants dress warmly in layers and wear waterproof boots. They should bring binoculars, a camera and snacks.
Snow dates for the trips are the Sundays immediately following the original date. Refunds are not provided if reservations are canceled.
Tickets cost $15 for conservancy members and $25 for non-members.

HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne County Arts Alliance’s Main Street Gallery has scheduled six shows that explore an artist’s concept of past, present and future. The first exhibition, “Archive: Stories from Storage,” opens on March 4.
Sometimes, the arts alliance says, artwork that has been put away has gained importance or added meaning over time. Artists are encouraged to submit work that has been set aside and then rediscovered, reimagined and reworked.
