SOUTH CANAAN TOWNSHIP, PA — A woman from Lackawanna County was killed by a falling tree on Thursday, April 30, while driving in Wayne County.
The Wayne County Coroner's Office was dispatched to the scene of a fatal crash on Route 296 near 2567 Easton Turnpike in South Canaan Township. Coroner Edward Howell pronounced the woman, Kelly A. Rinaldi, 53 years old, dead at the scene at 3:35 p.m.
"While the investigation is ongoing, it has been established that a large tree fell onto the vehicle operated by Rinaldi at the moment she was passing by the tree while traveling northbound on Route 296. The decedent sustained fatal traumatic injuries resulting from the tree impacting the top of the vehicle. The manner of death is accidental," according to a press release.
PA State Police are investigating the accident.
