BETHEL, NY — The Sullivan County Cadet Squadron, local unit of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), is hosting an open house on Saturday, September 7 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. at the Sullivan County International Airport. The entire community is welcome to attend and learn more about CAP.
Members of the squadron will be present to greet visitors and explain CAP’s missions for America. CAP welcomes children ages 12 to 18 to join as cadets and adults to join to mentor the cadets.
Light refreshments will be provided.
SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — Literacy Volunteers of Sullivan County (LVSC) is here to help those in and around Sullivan County who struggle with reading. The group also assists people in furthering their educations and receiving their High School Equivalency Diploma.
According to its press release, the group has helped seven people receive their High School Equivalency Diploma in the past six months.
Classes begin on Tuesday, September 10. LVSC also offers one-on-one tutoring that can fit any schedule. For more information, call 845/794-0017 or stop at the Literacy Center located at 63 North St. in Monticello. The hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
HONESDALE, PA — Dress for Success Lackawanna is announcing enrollment for its Going Places Network (GPN), a job preparedness program. This specially designed program helps unemployed and under-employed women gain professional skills by providing them with the tools and resources needed to successfully land a job.
The Going Places Network will meet at The Cooperage Project once a week, Thursday mornings from September 12 to October 17 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. It is free of charge and open to women needing assistance in seeking employment or looking for a career change.
