‘Dream on the Farm’

DAMASCUS, PA — Farm Arts Collective continues outdoor arts programming with “Dream on the Farm,” a live theatre performance on Willow Wisp Organic Farm. This site-specific performance has been developed and staged for small audience groups in the time of COVID-19.

The show was created and is performed by the Farm Arts Collective ensemble of 15 musicians, actors, stilt walkers, ecologists, farmers and Chief Gentlemoon of the Lenape-Nation of PA. The performance will be safely staged as a mobile (the audience walks from scene to scene) experience for small groups of 12 people on the 30-acre organic farm where Farm Arts Collective has a greenhouse theatre. Dream on the Farm is directed by artistic director Tannis Kowalchuk who directed last year’s sold out hit Shakespeare on the Farm, as well as the NACL Theatre performances of COURAGE (Governor’s Island, NYC 2017) and The Weather Project.

“Dream on the Farm” is an eco-drama that brings the character of Mother Nature to the farm where she is holding an Extinction Event to warn humans of their destructive and risky behavior on the planet.

‘Born in a Trunk’ with RR’s Jonathan Charles Fox

FORESTBURGH, NY — On Friday, July 31 at 7:30 p.m. author, columnist and performer Jonathan Charles Fox will present an exclusive one-night-only evening of personal storytelling based on his early years in show business.

“Yeah, I know my way around a theatre,” monologist Fox said during an interview with The Forestburgh Playhouse last week, “and I have a story or two to tell about the old days. I’ve performed in hundreds of productions over more than twenty years” he added. “Probably with some divas, I mean actors, whose names you might recognize. But I’ll swear in a court of law,” he said with a wink. “That you didn’t hear it from me.”

“Nothing is scripted, nothing is memorized” Fox said by way of explanation, “and I never really know where the evening will take us, since a lot of that rests in the hands of the audience, who also play a part in the show. Think of it as an entertaining conversation over cocktails,” Fox added, “One that’s just between us,” he laughed. “But as usual, I’ll be doing most of the talking.”

The big deal about rain barrels

ONLINE — Have you ever wished for a more efficient way to water your garden, keep your car clean and save money all while helping the environment? On Saturday, July 25 at 10 a.m., Brodhead Watershed Association, in partnership with Monroe County Conservation District, will host a webinar showing what rain barrels do, how to install one and to decorate it.

In this online workshop, part of BWA’s Greening Mountainhome program, Darryl Speicher will talk about this method of collecting rainwater for many uses around the house as well as its pollution prevention abilities.

Thanks to a grant to MCCD from PADEP’s Environmental Education program, the first 25 participants who request a barrel, pre-register and attend the webinar get a free rain barrel. Details of how to join the Zoom webinar will be emailed to registrants. Deadline to register is noon Friday, July 24, 2020.

Artist talk and lecture

ONLINE — On Thursday, July 30 at 7 p.m., the Hurleyville Performing Arts Centre is presenting an artist talk and lecture with Jean-Marc Superville Sovak. He will be discussing his series of prints, “a-Historical Landscapes,” now part of the permanent collection of the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art in New Paltz, NY.

By combining 19th-century landscape engravings of representational idealism with images of captured fugitive slaves and Underground Railroad caravans, Jean-Marc Superville Sovak offers us a more inclusive, and perhaps more accurate, art historical archive of the Hudson Valley by filling in the absences left by dominant narratives.

This free, public event will be held via Zoom and simulcast on Facebook Live on the Hurleyville Performing Arts Centre’s Facebook Page. Registration for the webinar will be available on the HPAC website. Webinar participants will have the opportunity to comment and ask the artist questions after the talk.  A recording of the event will be made available following the event at www.hurleyvilleartscentre.org.
