Dorothee A. Holmstrup, of Pompton Plains, NJ and Beach Lake, PA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Chilton Medical Center in Pompton Plains. The daughter of the late William and Frances Murphy Heins, she was born April 11, 1919 in New York City, NY. She was 101 years young. She was a retired librarian for Ridgewood Elementary School District. She was a graduate of Wagner College and received her master’s from Rutgers University.

She attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Narrowsburg, NY. She was instrumental in the start of the Western Sullivan Public Library in Narrowsburg. She was the widow of Christian Holmstrup, who had passed away in 1991 and Rev. Fred Bryant, who had passed away in 2011.

Dorothee grew up in this area but moved to the city. After that, she visited in the summer and on weekends.

A family statement reads, “Dorothee was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved gardening, spending time in the river valley. She enjoyed playing bridge and golf. At 80, she had married her second husband. She was a very young 101. She was truly remarkable and will be missed.”

Survivors include her son, Paul Holmstrup, and his wife, Helen, of Philadelphia, PA; her daughter, Karen Holmstrup; her husband, Rob, of Beach Lake, PA; her grandson, Michael Holmstrup, and his wife, Ria, of New Castle, PA; her three great-grandchildren Christian, Mia and Jackson; her great-grandson, Justin Holmstrup, of Pueblo, CO; her niece, Jan Holmstrup; and her sister-in-law, Joy Holmstrup.

Christian burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery in Narrowsburg with Pastor Phyllis Haynes officiating.
