WURTSBORO, NY — Belle looks like something that crawled out of a grave, a skin-crawlingly creepy sculpture.

What the mostly-bald, one-armed… thing... does not look like: food.

The cake, created by Wurtsboro cake artist Kim Simons and her Ghosts with the Most team members Lilian Halabi and Jewel Burgess, was horrifying enough to win the first round of the Food Network’s “Halloween Wars,” which aired on September 19.

“Halloween is my thing,” said Simons, who is also a River Reporter columnist. “Filming ‘Halloween Wars’ has been my dream.”

She and her team will be back on October 3.

“There are eight teams of three,” she explained. For the first couple of shows, “four teams battle each other and one team is eliminated.”

The remaining teams continue the fight until finally one winner is left.

She’s no stranger to Food Network victory; she and the Bah Hum Bakers won “Holiday Wars” in 2019.

For her winter plans, Simons is putting together cake art classes for those who want to advance to a new level of dessert mastery.

And for those who want to know what happens in the upcoming Halloween battles?

They’ll have to tune in, she said. “9 p.m. on Sundays, on the Food Network, or stream on Discovery+.”
